What makes JDP Chemistry Tutoring different from other tutoring companies?
There are many reasons why JDP Chemistry Tutoring stands out from other tutoring companies. Some of the main reasons are:
Specialist Service. You've heard the phrase “Jack of all trades, but master of none”. Well, that’s not JDP Chemistry Tutoring; unlike most other tutoring companies, we specialize in just one subject. Chemistry is our field of expertise and we only tutor in this subject.
Tailor Made Service. JDP Chemistry Tutoring is the ideal resource for unlocking a student’s full potential. We give students one-on-one attention, enabling us to identify their individual needs. Your child will receive instruction of the highest quality and individualized lesson plans, as opposed to a cookie cutter “one size fits all” experience. No two students learn in the same way and with this in mind, all of our clients receive unique, customized tutorials.
Proven Results. All of the students we have worked with have seen a significant improvement in their class grade and/or their score on the SAT II chemistry examination.
Experience. Do you really want your child to be taught by a college student with no experience or knowledge of teaching? There is a massive difference between knowing a subject and knowing how to teach it. We have always been able to make chemistry accessible to our students. This ability has been honed through years of teaching experience. We know when to provide an answer upfront and when to guide a student though a question on step by step basis. We also know when to give examples and hints to enhance a student’s confidence level with the subject material. We recognize that effective tutoring involves creating a learning environment in which students feel relaxed, confident, and motivated.
Environmentally Friendly. Wherever possible, we use e-mail and PDF files, as opposed to paper based documents. Any paper that we use is always of the recycled variety. We also minimize our greenhouse emissions by driving hybrid vehicles.
How do you ensure that my child is progressing and making satisfactory academic improvement?
We continually monitor the progress of our students. When requested, we are happy to provide parents with daily and monthly progress reports.
What times are you available?
We are available 7 days a week, on a year round basis. We offer afternoon and evening sessions during the week, and morning, afternoon, and evening sessions during the weekend.
How many tutorials does my child need?
As every student learns in a different way, the number of tutorials required tends to vary on a case by case basis. Based on your child’s grades and test scores, we can estimate how many tutorials we think they require, but it is not possible to give a definite number. As the tutoring proceeds, it will become clearer whether our estimate was accurate, or if more or less tutorials are required.
What is the SAT II chemistry test and when should my child take it?
The SAT II chemistry test is one of the SAT subject tests. These tests are a series of college entrance tests that cover specific academic subject areas. They are given by the College Board Entrance Examination Board. The colleges to which your child is applying to dictates whether or not they need to take SAT II subject tests. Lots of schools do not require SAT subject tests, some require one or two, and some like Harvard require three.
SAT II tests are generally not as difficult as Advanced Placement tests, but they typically cover more than is taught in basic high school classes. Students usually take an SAT II test after completing an Advanced Placement course or an Honors course in the subject area.
The SAT II chemistry test is a one hour examination consisting of 85 multiple choice questions, which is scored between 200 and 800. The use of a calculator is not permitted. Numerical calculations are limited to simple arithmetic. A periodic table is provided; it will show only the element symbols, atomic numbers, and atomic masses.
The SAT II chemistry test is quite difficult, and like any standardized test, it requires a solid test taking strategy, as well as in depth knowledge of the subject matter.
How long are your tutoring sessions?
The tutoring sessions run for 1 - 1.5 hours. The minimum length is one hour.
